Early diagenesis and benthic fluxes of redox-sensitive metals in eastern China shelf sediments

چکیده

Thirteen Short sediment cores (30-50 cm) were collected from Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea and Changjiang Estuary in China, the early diagenesis of several redox sensitive metals (Fe, Mn, Mo, U V, referring to as RSMs) studied. The recycling process Mo Mn was closely correlated with each other, generating benthic fluxes diffusing upward overlying water column, flux rates are related organic carbon oxidation rates. V more tightly coupled Fe oxides, going downward into most cores. Significant authigenic accumulation U, contrary little no found study region, even where hypoxic condition often during summer. Benthic diffusive compared mass accumulate (MAR), which indicated that, besides diffusion process, there other processes controlling RSMs. close relationships between RSMs OC burial S , indicating is a consequence environment shelf sediment, directly influencing degradation process. Compared continental margin, moderate enrichment China sediment. BS NYS sediments accounted for 20 - 68% River input, whilst SYS ~ 64% acting important sinks that cannot be ignored.

Benthic fluxes in seasonally-hypoxic sediments

Biogeosciences Discussions This discussion paper is/has been under review for the journal Biogeosciences (BG). Please refer to the corresponding final paper in BG if available. Abstract This study presents benthic data from 12 samplings from February to December 2010 in a 2 m deep channel in the southwest Baltic Sea. In winter, the distribution of solutes in the porewater was strongly modulated...

Benthic fluxes of dissolved organic carbon from gas hydrate sediments in the northern South China Sea

Hydrocarbon vents have recently been reported to contribute considerable amounts of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to the oceans. Many such hydrocarbon vents widely exist in the northern South China Sea (NSCS). To investigate if these hydrocarbon vent sites release DOC, we used a real-time video multiple-corer to collect bottom seawater and surface sediments at vent sites. We analyzed concentra...

A new estimate of detrital redox-sensitive metal concentrations and variability in fluxes to marine sediments

The enrichment and depletion of redox sensitive trace metals in marine sediments have been used extensively as paleoredox proxies. The trace metals in shale are comprised of both detrital (transported or particulate) and authigenic (precipitated, redox-driven) constituents, potentially complicating the use of this suite of proxies. Untangling the influence of these components is vital for the i...

Benthic Nutrient Fluxes from Mangrove Sediments of an Anthropogenically Impacted Estuary in Southern China

Mangroves serve as either sinks or sources for inorganic and organic nutrients and can mitigate anthropogenic nutrient pollution, control the production in adjacent systems, and prevent eutrophication. To better understand the nutrient dynamics in a subtropical mangrove, we employed a three-way approach in the Nanliu River Estuary, southern China: Pore water profiles and sediment incubations re...
